Massage Modalities
There are many different modalities, which are types of massage. Below is a list of the modalities we use in our practice.
Swedish Massage
"The most common type of massage is Swedish massage therapy. It involves soft, long, kneading strokes, as well as light, rhythmic, tapping strokes, on topmost layers of muscles. This is also combined with movement of the joints. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish therapy can be both relaxing and energizing. And it may even help after an injury." - WebMD
Deep Tissue Massage
"Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints)." - MassageEnvy.com
Prenatal Massage
A form of massage similar to Swedish massage, but the client is on their side with the help of pillows and bolsters. This is proven to help pregnant clients with backaches, hip tension, headaches, etc.
Hot Stone Massage
"A stone massage uses cold or water-heated stones to apply pressure and heat to the body. Stones coated in oil can also be used by the therapist delivering various massaging strokes. The hot stones used are commonly Basalt stones (or lava rocks) which over time have become extremely polished and smooth. As the stones are placed along the recipient's back, they help to retain heat which then deeply penetrates into the muscles." - Wikipedia
Craniosacral Therapy
"Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle approach that releases tensions deep in the body by applying light touch to the skull, face, spine, and pelvis." - Wikipedia
Lymphatic Drainage
"Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a type of gentle massage which is intended to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart." - Wikipedia
